STBS LIBRARY
St. Thomas’ Boys’ School has two well stocked libraries.
The library of senior school is situated in the ground floor of the Main block. The library, with a dimension of 36 feet to 27 feet, is a well-equipped and spacious facility that provides a comfortable and conducive environment for readers. It is fully air-conditioned, ensuring that the temperature is optimal for reading even during hot and humid weather conditions.
This library houses a collection of more than 5900 books and periodicals on more than 83 subjects, catering to the needs of various age groups and interests. The collection includes a good variety of English fiction books, ranging from the classics of the 18th century to the contemporary bestsellers, providing ample choices for avid readers. The library also has an impressive collection of multi-volume encyclopedias focusing on general knowledge as well as specific subjects enabling readers to gain knowledge on wide range of topics. To meet the demands of students we also have a good collection of Year books, Quiz books and books of facts.
Moreover, the library also caters to the needs of Hindi and Bengali speaking readers, with a collection of books in these languages. The collection is regularly updated ensuring that readers have access to the latest books in their preferred language. Special care is taken for the Middle school students ensuring that they develop reading habits. Weekly classes on story reading, quiz on spellings and lending of books are done to ensure the student becomes an avid reader. The library also keeps latest subject books to support the learning process of the I.C.S.E. and ISC curriculum. Our library has more than 500 magazines and we subscribe for India Today, Down to Earth, Sports Star, Reader’s Digest, Children’s Digest, Physics Today, Biology Today and Chemistry Today, etc. We keep last ten years question papers of ICSE and ISC examinations and we also file terminal question papers conducted in our school for the reference of the teachers.
Our library subscribe for four newspapers like The Statesman, Telegraph, Ananda Bazar (Bengali) and Sunmarg (Hindi).
CHEMISTRY LABORATORY
The STBS CHEMISTRY LAB is one of the most well-equipped laboratories with proper safety measures, in Kolkata. It can accommodate 52 students, with individual work stations at a time. The Chemistry laboratory has chemical reagents and Apparatus needed for a student to conduct experiments till class 12. It's experimental measurements and observations are concluded in the laboratory with results weather. The significance of the study and the scope of future research is maintained and focused while concluding experiments.
PHYSICS LABORATORY
In order to meet the growing demand for education in Science and Technology the foundation for the Science block was laid in the year 1957 by the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. The building has three large laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The physics laboratory is a well equipped laboratory for teaching physics to students from middle school to class 12 level.
The laboratory has apparatus for conducting and demonstrating experiments on a wide and varied array of topics from the different branches of physics.
Students can conduct experiments on Reflection of light on plane and spherical mirrors. Refraction through glass blocks, lenses and prisms. Dispersion and deviation of light through prisms are also studied. Many experiments on Electricity are demonstrated and performed by students. Various experiments on Sound using tuning forks, resonance tubes etc are also demonstrated. Magnets and properties of magnets, understanding magnetic fields and plotting these are done by students. Variety of experiments are demonstrated and done involving heat and principle of calorimetry. Many experiments on basic principles of measuring length, volume, density, time, melting point etc are demonstrated and performed. The physics laboratory has adequate apparatus to make students interested and enthusiastic about physics from middle school onwards.
Every year we train our class 12 students thoroughly in the laboratory giving them a better scope to score well at the ISC examinations.
BIOLOGY LABORATORY
The STBS BIOLOGY LAB is a spacious and airy laboratory with enough seating space to handle a large group of students while maintaining minimum distance as per council guidelines. It has
adequate laboratory equipments for all students and good quality microscopes as well as stock of readymade slides for students.
We have extensive stock of laboratory charts and Biological flow charts with adequate data of plant and animal anatomy and morphology for demonstration. Beside that we have full scale skeletons and full scale fibre glass model of human including removable parts and organs for anatomical studies.
Fibre glass models of various body organs are present and adequate preserved specimens for plant and animal studies are present in the Lab.
COMPUTER LABORATORY
It's a huge lab with 52 computers and 4 printer
Computer is compulsory for classes 1 to 8
For classes 9 and 12 it is taken as sixth subject and the students appear for ICSE and ISC
The students পারফরম্যান্স brilliantly in their board exam securing the highest average in the subject year after year
This year robotics have been introduced for classes 1 to 8
A new lab has been set up for that
